Options & Extras

Travelling times

Travelling times (not including stops) are indicated on each day. The trip is private so you can decide on the pace, including where to stop, how long to stop and the departure time each day (notwithstanding the fact that on some days an early departure is highly recommended). Morocco is a large country with a mixed infrastructure! Connections between main cities are excellent. Rural roads are slow.  Morocco is not a place to be rushed. And you must always expect the unexpected; the charm of such a trip being you can never predict what might happen. Morocco has so many charms; it always pays to have plenty of flexibility in your day.

Transport

This will be in a mini-van or Toyota Land Cruiser with an English speaking driver. The trip is private so you may stop wherever you like en route for sightseeing, photography and refreshments.

Guides

Your driver will be knowledgeable, helpful, good company and most importantly a cautious and excellent driver.  He is an integral part to the success of your trip. But he is not an official guide. We therefore arrange guides separately. The guides we use are passionate about their cities – their enthusiasm is infectious. Being specialists they will adapt your tour to your interests.

Accommodation

The places to stay are carefully selected, based on their high quality, uniqueness and service. In the cities we highly recommend staying in a small riad in the medina, an authentically Moroccan experience. All the riads have been sensitively restored. The places we have selected are not ostentatious, but rather understated luxury with charm.

Desert

There are 2 main desert areas in Morocco, being Chebbi and Chigaga. Chebbi is easier to get to and does not require a 4×4. However, it is also busy and in many places overdeveloped. Chigaga offers a more authentic desert experience, feels and is remote and requires a 4×4 to reach. Travelling time to Chigaga is an additional 3 hours. In addition, the journey is also more inspiring, more off the beaten track. However, the suggestion to stay at Chigaga is only a recommendation, and if you prefer to stay at Chebbi, that can of course be arranged.

Cost

The cost is from US $180-450 per person per day, depending on the type of accommodation selected.

Is a Morocco tour right for you?

Morocco is a developing nation that has been steadily moving through a fast period of growth and change. It’s an exciting and fascinating time to experience Morocco. As a developing nation things do not always work the same as in Europe, Australasia and the States, which is of course much of the charm. While exploring the country it often feels like you are going back in time, but you will also see a Morocco working hard towards finding its way to a progressive democracy and finding solutions for its economic, social and political challenges. You will experience the stunning ancient Berber culture and traditions, learn about Morocco’s fascinating Islamic, Moorish and French history, meet friendly locals, enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Moroccans, and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the Sahara Desert, High Atlas Mountains and Moroccan coastline.
Most trips require moderate activity level – sustained walking for 2-3 hours over rough terrain, cobblestone, hills and sand dunes, often in the heat. Some days you may be on your feet for the majority of the day with only short breaks. A few days there will be up to 8 hours of driving. Please advise if any of your group use walkers, wheelchairs, other mobility aids, have back issues or cannot stand on their feet for 2-3 hours while visiting sites and walking around museums. Depending on the time of year our tours often involve a number of hours outside in hot temperatures. All desert trips include a camel trek although some guests prefer to sit these out!
If you do not think you’ll be able to meet this level of activity requirement or if you have any questions or concerns please contact us to discuss and we will design an appropriate tour for specifically for you.
