Morocco Desert Tour for the Children of the Sahara Foundation
A benefit tour of Morocco, with 3 days of camel trekking in Erg Chigaga, for the Children of the Sahara Foundation – a desert tour adventure that takes us from Marrakech to the sand dunes of the Sahara.
The Children of the Sahara Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charity that helps improve the lives of the nomadic children of the Sahara while sustaining the culture and heritage of the nomads. The Foundation is a non-religious and non-partisan organization whose founders utilize their professional and personal relationships and subject-matter expertise to benefit the Sahara children.
Arriving in Marrakech we will spend one night in this vibrant city before heading South on our Sahara adventure that will take us across the High Atlas Mountains and along the Draa River Valley to where the paved road ends at M’hamid. From M’hamid we will camel trek for 3-days to the sand dunes of the Erg Chigaga, with our expert desert guide Mohammed, across a protected desert wilderness that is home to the Ait Atta Berber nomads.

Children of the Sahara Benefit Tour - Outline Tour
- Day 1 – Arrive Marrakech. Hotel
- Day 2 – Marrakech to Zagora. Hotel with pool
- Day 3 – Zagora to M’hamid. Desert camp
- Day 4 – Start of 3-day Erg Chigaga camel trek. Wild camp
- Day 5 – Continuation of 3-day Erg Chigaga camel trek. Wild camp
- Day 6 – End of 3-day Erg Chigaga camel trek. Desert camp
- Day 7 – Erg Chigaga to M’hamid. Hotel with pool
- Day 8 – M’hamid to Marrakech. Hotel
- Day 9 – Transfer to airport and depart or extend your time in Marrakech
Children of the Sahara Benefit Tour - Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Marrakech
Arrive Marrakech and transfer to a 4* hotel on B&B. Depending the time of arrival there is the option of a half day tour guided walking tour of Marrakech.
Day 2 – Marrakech to Zagora via Tizi-n-Tichka and Ouarzazate
8am transfer across the Atlas Mountains via the highest Atlas road pass (Tizi-n-Tichka) to Zagora stopping for lunch in Ouarzazate. Continue along the Draa River Valley to Zagora. Hotel with pool on HB (evening meal and breakfast included).
Day 3 – Zagora to M’hamid
9am transfer to M’hamid, via Tamegroute, at the edge of the protected desert wilderness of the Erg Chigaga sand sea where the Berber nomads of the Ait Atta tribe live and raise their families. Desert camp on HB (evening meal and breakfast included).
Day 4 – 3-day Erg Chigaga Camel Trek with Desert Guides
Start of our 3-day camel trek, with desert guides, across a desert wilderness. Wild camp on FB (lunch, evening meal and breakfast included)
Day 5 – Continuation of 3-day Erg Chigaga Camel Trek
Continue our benefit 3-day camel trek across a desert wilderness, with our desert guides, towards the sands dunes of the Erg Chigaga sand sea. Wild camp on FB (lunch, evening meal and breakfast included)
Day 6 – End of 3-day Camel Trek to Erg Chigaga
Arrive at the Erg Chigaga sand dunes and relax in our comfortable desert camp with flushing loos and hot showers. Desert camp on FB (lunch, evening meal and breakfast included)
Day 7 – Erg Chigaga to M’hamid with Desert Exploration
A day to visit the Ait Atta Berber nomads who live in this region e.g. a nomad school, nomad wells and nomad families. Hotel with pool on HB (evening meal and breakfast included).
Day 8 – M’hamid to Marrakech
9am drive to Marrakech via the High Atlas Berber village of Telouet and Kasbah of el Glaoui. 4* hotel on B&B
Day 9 – Transfer to airport and depart
Transfer to Marrakech airport and depart or extend you time in Morocco and spend a few days exploring Marrakech and the surrounding areas.

The price of the tour is to be confirmed
Price to include:
- airport transfers
- Hotels on a twin-share basis – 2 per room
- hotels on B&B (bed and breakfast) or HB (dinner and breakfast) as per the itinerary
- 3-day Erg Chigaga camel trek with desert guides on FB (lunch, dinner, and breakfast)
Price to exclude:
- flights
- evenings meals in Marrakech where there are lots of restaurants to choose from
- lunches except on 3-day Erg Chigaga camel trek with desert guides
- beverages e.g. mineral water, sodas, alcohol – iodine or similar provided during camel trek to purify water
- single supplements available in hotels and desert camp
Confirmation & Payment Options
Tours are confirmed on receipt of a 25% deposit and the balance is due four weeks before the start date of the trip. Payment can be via bank transfer or we accept all major credit cards except AMEX. Credit card payments incur a 1.5% surcharge that is not included in the cost of our Moroccan holidays to give you the choice of payment.
Bank transfers may incur charges and debit card payments are free.
