Day Tour of Fes (Fez) with an English Speaking Guide
Step back centuries into the world of Fes (Fez). In addition to the European part, built after the First World War, there is Fes el Jédid c.14AD and Fes el Bali c.9AD. The Old Medina of Fes el Bali is a World Heritage Site and one of the largest medieval cities of its type; its narrow cobbled streets are filled with ancient mosques and towering green-glazed minarets. Losing yourself here is akin to losing yourself in time, until you emerge into the clatter of a busy souk where proud artisans craft objects as their forefathers did for before them.
1 Day Tours: Local Day Trips and Tours
- Meknes and the roman ruins at Volubilis
- The Village of Bhalil and the troglodyte caves
- Note: 1 day camel rides from Fes are not possible; for a desert tour and camel trek, from Fes to Merzouga (Erg Chebbi), you need a minimum of 3 full days. See below.
2 and 3 Day Tours: Imperial Cities and Chefchouen
- Chefchouen in the Rif mountains. Stay in the Old Medina and explore this unique town, painted in hues of blue, in the land of the Jubli Berber tribe
- Tour the North of Morocco and visit Fes, Chefchouen, Meknes, Volubilis and Rabat.
3 and 4 Day Tours: Desert Excursions to Merzouga

Fes (Fez) to Marrakech Desert Tours
For a Fes to Marrakech transfer we suggest a 3, 4 or 5 day trip that includes the cedar forests, a camel trek in the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga, oasis valley gorges, valley of one thousand kasbahs, rose valley, palmeries, village souks, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, the Kasbah of el Glaoui at Telouet and the Tizi-n-Tichka High Atlas road pass into Marrakech.
Suggested itinerary for a private 4x4 desert tour from Fes to Marrakech via the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga:
- Day 1 – Fes to Merzouga via Azrou, Cedar Forests and Ziz Valley Gorge. Your driver will meet you at your riad or hotel in a private 4x4 with aircon to transport you to the desert village of Merzouga via Azrou, the cedar forests and Ziz gorge. This is an interesting route and you can stop for lunch in a Berber café. Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes and check into a hotel from where you can safely wander into the immediate desert to watch the sunset.
- Day 2 – Erg Chebbi with camel trek to overnight in a Berber tent. Explore the desert region with your driver e.g. visit the fossil beds, seasonal lakes, gnawa musicians and the village of Merzouga itself. In the late afternoon take a guided camel trek into the Erg Chebbi sand dunes and sleep under the stars in a nomad tent. If camel trekking is not for you, take an evening camel ride and spend a second night in the hotel with pool.
- Day 3 – Return from Camel Trek; Merzouga to Ouarzazate via Todra Gorge and Rose Valley. Return across the desert on your camels and transfer to Ouarzazate via Todra Gorge, Kellaa Mgouna (valley of the roses), the valley of one thousand kasbahs and Skoura palmerie.
- Day 4 – Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Kasbah Ait Benhaddou and the Berber village of Telouet. Transfer from Ouarzazate to Marrakech via Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, a World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most spectacular ksour (dwellings) that once guarded the lucrative caravan route through the Atlas mountains. Continue to Marrakech via the High Atlas village of Telouet and the abandoned Kasbah of el Glaoui. Lunch in Telouet and continue to Marrakech across the Tizi-n-Tichka Atlas mountain pass, enjoying the far-reaching views of small Berber villages that cling to the mountainsides.
If camel treks and desert dunes are not for you, design an itinerary of your own with the highlights of your choice e.g. archaeological sites and Imperial Cities.

Testimonials
"Marrakesh and Morocco was an experience we will never forget; our trip to the Atlas Mountains which you arranged for us was one of the best highlights of our holiday. Hassan was at our Riad to meet us, as you said at 8am, and the drive up through the mountains and the visit to Telouet and the Pasha's Kasbah was wonderful; all the family enjoyed it. Marrakesh grows on you and we were pleased we stayed for a week because each day it seemed to get better once we had adjusted to the busy souks and traffic (not so happy with the amount of carbon coming from the cars etc; we found that a bit difficult to cope with) but we loved staying in a Riad visiting and going to the place Djemma el Fna at night. If we go to Morocco again we will certainly contact you for some more trips."
"The trip was amazing, really really good, and Khalid (the guide) was very nice with us, he treated us very well and he showed us many different things, he made us feel like at home. Definitely, the trip was one of the best things we did in morocco. We will recommend to any of our friends Authentic Morocco if they go there, they can’t miss the desert and the high atlas and doing that with a guide is much more interesting."
"Thanks for everything because we had a great time in Morocco."
"We had such a great time on tour it was definitely the highlight of our Morocco trip! Firstly I cannot recommend Bara, our driver, highly enough - he was so knowledgable, respectful, friendly, funny and importantly a very safe driver (we heard nightmare stories from a riad owner about really unsafe tour drivers). At times it seemed as tho he knew everyone in Morocco because nearly ever place we visited people were calling out to him to say hello! My favourite part of our trip was camel riding through dusk to stay in the star soaked desert for the night, such an amazing experiences and our guides were excellent cooks and entertainers, with the return camel journey taking place through the morning sun. It was special to get the chance to experience both dusk and dawn in the desert as the sand changes so much with the different light. I also enjoyed the Gnawa musicians, the kasbah that the pasha lived in up until 1956 and the carpet warehouse that was near the kasbah. Thank you for all the organisation you did for us Liz, we had such a fab time with about a millions pictures to prove it! If I ever come back to Morocco (and I sincerely hope I do) I will be sure to be in touch again to organise another tour. By the way, the Australian couple that came in our 4 x 4 ended up being our firm friends by the end and they are coming over for our slide evening that we are having to show off our holiday snaps so that was another great thing about the trip too."
"I had a great trip in Morocco and I found the whole experience very rewarding. This was made possible because of how well organised it was and I'd like to thank you for creating such a great itinerary for me. Morocco certainly is a country made for photos and I'm very happy with the shots I took. Thanks again and I wish you all the best for the future."
