Children of the Sahara

Morocco Berbers - Nomads in the Atlas

On 30th December 2007 Authentic Morocco ran a 5 day desert tour from Marrakech to celebrate New Year Eve in the Sahara - on this trip were Liz Williams, Lisa Delsante and Victoria Gunnarsson.

As a result of our experiences in Erg Chigaga with the Ait Atta Berbers, and at a nomad tented school, an idea was born and I would like to thank everyone involved for their time and efforts in establishing the Children of the Sahara Foundation.

Children of the Sahara Foundation

The Children of the Sahara Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit charity that helps improve the lives of the nomadic children of the Sahara while sustaining the culture and heritage of the nomads. The Foundation is a non-religious and non-partisan organization whose founders utilize their professional and personal relationships and subject-matter expertise to benefit the Sahara children.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to support the advancement of the nomadic children of the Sahara through the promotion of local human development efforts. Sahara Children’s strategy to achieve this mission includes:

  • association and cooperation with governmental and non-governmental entities that provide programs and projects designed to benefit nomadic children, including basic literacy programs and projects
  • raising funds (through proposals and events) to support such programs and projects designed to benefit nomadic children
  • providing information to local organizations on resources available for funding and other types of support or services for children.
